Thank You Cards - What Do I Say?

Sending a Thank You card is a great way to build and maintain a business or personal relationship. It can be simple and to the point, yet still pack a punch with the receiver in demonstrating that you are a sharing and caring person. In our impersonal world, just the simple act of saying "thank you" is very powerful.

When is a Thank You card appropriate to send?

Certainly after any business meeting where you have been introduced to or met someone for the first time is very appropriate. If someone has gone out of there way to give you a "random act of kindness" this certainly warrants a Thank You card as well.

Thank You Cards - What Do I Say?

And more importantly, there are many people in our lives that we take for granted that never hear the word "Thank You" from us. Think in your everyday life of all of the people you come in contact with that deserve a heartfelt "Thank You" from you. Could it be a teacher, family member who lives far away, a retired coach, your bank teller, or the hairdresser? Who is that person that is behind the scenes that never gets a word of recognition that deserves it? Take a moment out of your day and send them a card.

Thank You cards are appropriate anytime you want to let someone know that they are special and you appreciate the contribution they have made to your life.

When should Thank You cards be sent?

A Thank You card should be sent out no later than 24 hours after a business meeting. Especially if you are going for an interview, follow-up with a card the minute you return home.

In a random act of kindness, Thank You cards can be sent out at anytime. In fact, Thank You cards can be a way for you to start focusing on the positive things in your life and turn your attention away from yourself and start thinking of others. For example, if you have had a bad day, take a moment to write down five people who are always there for you and send them a Thank You card. Let them know how important they are to you and that it doesn't have to be a holiday to get a card from you. In the act of writing Thank You cards, you are deflecting the negative out of your thoughts and filling your mind with the positive. And most importantly, you are taking action!

What do you say in a Thank You card?

Since Thank You cards are usually only about 3-4 sentences, you have to get to the point quickly. If you are like me, the first sentence is the most difficult to write, so I developed a formula for writing Thank You cards that works. Here is my formula for writing Thank You cards after a business meeting or interview.

1. Start all Thank You cards with this phrase:

"It was a pleasure to meet and visit with you today."

2. Remind them what your meeting was about:

" Thank you for taking time to tell me more about the XYZ company."

3. Give them some feedback on your experience:

"I enjoyed meeting the team members and getting a sense of what XYZ is all about.

4. Close with:

"Thank you, Mr. Jones. I look forward to hearing from you soon."

Sincerely,

Jack Smith

So let's look at the Thank You letter all together:

Dear Mr. Jones,

It was a pleasure to meet and visit with you today. Thank you for taking time to tell me more about the XYZ company.I enjoyed meeting the team members and getting a sense of what XYZ is all about. Thank you, Mr. Jones. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Jack Smith

What about sending e-cards in this situation? My advice is to always send a REAL Thank You card. An e-Card is very impersonal and may get lost in the spam filter. Stand out in the crowd. Your potential employer deserves a real card. Now, if you were asked to provide additional information via email, then go ahead and send it but also send a real Thank You card too.

Now let's examine a sample for a simple random act of kindness Thank You card:

Dear Sue,

Thank you for taking the time to visit with me today. Your words of encouragement lifted my spirits and I have a much better perspective on "the big picture". I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Thank you,

Valerie

The Thank You card may be a simple little card, but it can open doors to new business opportunities or mend a friendship. Make it a habit to send out cards on a daily basis to friends and business associates to build and grow relationships. I hope this article was useful and that you will print and save it for future reference.

Resolving The Microsoft Jet Database Engine Could Not Find the Object MSysDb Cause Access Error

The Microsoft Jet Database Engine is a database engine for many Microsoft applications including MS Access. Microsoft Access 95, 97 create a Microsoft Jet 3.0 format database file, whereas, Access 2000, 2002 and 2003 versions create a Microsoft Jet 4.0 format database file. At times, you may encounter several errors while mounting your Access database files (.mdb or.accdb) or in worst scenarios you won't be able to even open MS Access application. Such situations surface due to corrupt Access database files and result in data inaccessibility. You can restore the data by using an updated backup. However, in the absence of a clean and valid backup, you are required to opt for an advanced Access recovery utility.

Consider a scenario, wherein, you are having an Access database in a multi-user environment, and when you try and open the application, you may receive the following error:

"The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object MsysDb. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and path name."

Resolving The Microsoft Jet Database Engine Could Not Find the Object MSysDb Cause Access Error

The above error message would restrict you from mounting the Access database.

Cause

The root cause of the error could be.mdb or.accdb file corruption. These Jet database files become corrupt due to various reasons including interrupted read/write oepration, faulty networking hardware, or opening and saving the file in another program.

Resolution

In order to fix the problem, consider using the following Access database recovery steps:

Take a backup of the affected Access database file
Run the built-in Compact and Repair utility (Jetcomp.exe), follow these steps:
1.Close the current database
2.On the Tools menu, point to Database utilities, and then click Compact and Repair database
3.In the Database to Compact From dialog box, specify the name, drive and folder for the compacted Access file
4.Click Save
5.Rebuilt the database by importing tables into a new database

If you don't get the desired results, you can always go for a third-party Access repair software. Such tools are designed to thoroughly scan corrupt.mdb or.accdb files by applying improved scanning algorithms and and extract all information.

How to Unblock Websites the Easy Way

Have you ever been at work or school getting bored when all of a sudden you get that urge to get onto the computer and check your social networking accounts? You get on the computer in your little cubicle, hoping for your chance to see whats going on in the real world right now. You open up the browser, type in the address of your social networking site, hit enter.. and to your surprise, a screen shows up telling you that the site is blocked. Frantically, you try the others, and all of them are blocked as well. What are you going to do now? Well.. unfortunately, it is becoming easier and easier for network administrators to block websites on their networks. The use of things like IPSEC and the hosts file in windows allow them to block you from browsing freely with a single click of a button. Because sites like twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and YouTube are considered "distractions" to you while you are at work or school, they are the ones to be blocked most often. And unfortunately to you, those are the sites that you like the most.

The good news is, there is a very simple and quick way to bypass network filters and blocks and get your freedom on the web back very easily. The solution is using a web proxy to access the web. A web proxy is a website that has the ability to bypass any filters and blocks that the network administrator may have set up. The best part is, web proxies do not require any type of installation or setup on your computer! This means you can browse the web freely without your network administrator ever even finding out! The only problem you may find with using proxies, is that sometimes, they even get blocked by your admin. What are you going to do now?

Well, there is another very simple solution, a web proxy list! Web proxy lists are websites that generally contain a large list of proxy sites that have been submitted by proxy webmasters all over the world. This is a great resource to use when you are in a situation where your administrator has blocked the proxy websites that you have been using, because you will always have another one available to use! Another great way to get the freshest proxies delivered directly to your email in-box is joining a Proxy Google Group. You will have the latest and freshest proxies to use in your email account each and every time that you log on. You can even follow a proxy robot on twitter to see proxies as they are added to the proxy list. This means you are really getting the freshest and newest proxies to use each and every time.

How to Unblock Websites the Easy Way

So, if you aren't convinced that web proxies are absolutely the best way to unblock websites that have been blocked by your network administrator, i don't know why. They are certainly the quickest and easiest way to browse the web securely, freely, and safely no matter where you are.

I hope you enjoy your new found freedom on the web!

How Do I Stop Receiving Spam Emails?

I often have people ask me the simple question, "How can I stop these spam emails?" I don't know if you've ever noticed but in IT the short / simple questions users ask quite innocently are the hardest and longest questions to answer. After about the 100th time I'd heard this question I decided to put together a list of advice which I'm including below.

1. Check if your ISP has a facility to filter out spam before you receive it.

2. Check if your anti virus software has an option to enable spam filtering. If it doesn't it may have a low cost upgrade to a version, which includes spam filtering.

How Do I Stop Receiving Spam Emails?

3. If you are using Microsoft Outlook Express as your email client upgrade to the Open Source Thunderbird email client from the team who brought you the Firefox web browser. This includes an excellent spam filter and it's free of charge.

4. Have two email accounts. For example you can easily set-up an account on G-mail and another on Yahoo. Use one for personal or business use and use the other when registering on web sites or mailing lists.

5. Never use your main email address when posting to mailing lists or newsgroups.

6. If you need to put your email address on a web page consider displaying it as a graphic rather than text - this will avoid spiders gathering your address automatically.

7. If you want a "contact us" feature on your web site, consider setting up a form that people can fill in rather than using the mailto: option. This will avoid spiders gathering the address automatically. If you set-up a feedback form you should also implement a Captcha - those difficult to read letters and numbers you get asked to key in to prove you're really human.

8. Don't encourage spammers by letting them know you've read their junk! Make sure your email client doesn't display embedded graphics inside emails by default. Modern email marketing systems give the graphics in each email they send a different name. When your email program downloads the graphics from their web server they log that you've opened their email and they know they've got a good email address.

9. Think twice before you switch on an out of office reply. This is another sure way of encouraging spam. When you're on leave why not route your email to another account for someone to monitor for you. Also consider that out of office replies often contain alternative contact details such as your mobile / cell phone number. These can then be used by spammers to start spamming you via SMS as well.

10. Never respond or reply to junk emails. I know it's tempting to send an email back asking them to stop sending you this rubbish but you can be sure this will only encourage the spammers to send you more!

11. If you have your own domain name (for example yourcompany.com) check how your ISP has set-up your account. Until recently most ISP's set-up domain names with catch-all email addresses. This means that the spammer can use what is known as a dictionary attack to flood your ISP and your email account with spam. They do this by reading each word from a dictionary in turn and try to send mail to it for example Apple at yourcompany.com, Ant at Yourcompany.com, Atom at Yourcompany.com. If you don't want a catch all email set-up just let your ISP know, most will be only to pleased to disable this for you.

12. Try and avoid setting up generic emails addresses on your domain such as info@yourcompany.com and sales@yourcompany.com. These generic addresses are now so common that spammers will always try these first.

13. If you have followed these suggestions and are still suffering from a lot of spam, check your spam filter to see what settings it has. You need to find a balance between receiving too much spam and rejecting good emails. Spam filters work by scoring emails, the more suspicious they are the higher the spam score. As spammers get cleverer they are finding ways to lower their score. This means you may need to progressively tweak down the threshold.

14. Train your spam filter. There are usually two key ways to do this. First add the people you want to receive emails from to your address book. This is sometimes known as white listing email addresses and your spam filter should leave emails from these addresses alone. Then on an ongoing basis if your spam filter lets a spam email through highlight the message and use it's report spam option. If you do this enough it will gradually learn the characteristics of the spam you receive and the good email you receive and make a better job of separating them

I don't think you'll ever stop spam completely because there is really no sure way of defining what is and isn't spam but with a little set-up work you can drastically reduce the amount of spam you receive.

Troubleshooting Computer Freeze (Lockup) Problems

How familiar does the following sound? Your computer was working fine, but then suddenly started locking up (aka hanging or freezing), rebooting itself (crashing) or shutting down spontaneously? If you know only too well what I am talking about, then read on! Performing the simple steps below can fix the majority of lockup cases.

1. Check for recently installed software or hardware.

If the lockups started to happen after you installed a new peace of hardware, new software program, or new drivers, uninstall it and see if the problem goes away.

Troubleshooting Computer Freeze (Lockup) Problems

2. Run your antivirus program.

One of the first things to do in the case of sudden lockups is to run your antivirus program. Check your antivirus manufacturer's website for updates and latest virus definition files. (This is absolutely necessary, outdated antivirus is not going to be of any use!) If you don't have antivirus software installed - or if updates are unavailable - run one of the web-based antivirus scans that some major antivirus vendors like Trend Micro are offering for free. You can find a comprehensive list of available web-based scans and free antivirus programs on http://www.free-antivirus.info.

3. Run some good spyware removal tool.

If your machine is not infected with any viruses, it is still possible that it has some harmful adware or spyware is present. Download and run some good spyware removal tool such as AdAware or Microsoft AntiSpyware. Check http://www.free-antivirus.info for a list of free spyware removal applications.

4. Check for free hard drive space.

When no viruses are found, check out free hard drive space on drive C:. Make sure there is more than 20% of free space available; low disk space can lead to random lockups.

5. Check for overheating.

Overheating is another known cause of lockups. It can be caused by problems with fans inside the case, dust buildup, or other cooling problems. Make sure the power supply fan and CPU fan are running and free of dust buildup. You can check the temperatures inside the case by running Motherboard monitor
http://mbm.livewiredev.com
- make sure the temperatures are within the preset limits. Be very careful while cleaning inside the computer case (use plastic vacuum crevice tool) and NEVER OPEN THE POWER SUPPLY CASE as it contains high voltage.

6. Check the hard disk.

Check the hard disk - it is possible that its logical structure is corrupted. To check the disk for errors, right-click on the disk C: icon in "My Computer", select the "Tools" tab, check all check boxes in the "Check disk options" field, and press the "Check now" button. It should ask whether you want to schedule the check next time you restart your computer - answer "Yes" and restart your PC. The check will be performed automatically after startup; it can take a while, so be patient. The program will attempt to fix some problems automatically - however, if the hard disk is failing physically, it will need to be replaced. It is also a good idea to run Disk Defragmenter (located in Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools) to optimize data placement on the hard disk for increased performance and reliability.

7. Check the memory.

Sometimes random lockups can be attributed to the computer memory (RAM) starting to fail. You can test the memory by running Windows Memory Diagnostic that can be downloaded from http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp. If memory problems are found, try re-seating the RAM (pull it out and plug it back in). If it doesn't work, replace the defective RAM.

8. Check for other hardware problems (advanced users).

More hardware-related problems can be diagnosed by running hardware tests from the Ultimate Boot CD that can be downloaded from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com. However, you should only use it if you know what are you doing - some programs on that CD can be dangerous when used inappropriately (for example, some of them can wipe the contents of your hard disk).

9. Update Windows and drivers.

Some lockups can be caused by outdated software components - update your windows and drives by running a windows update: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (it's good idea to run it regularly).

The above steps will help diagnose and eliminate the most common causes of lockups. Hundreds more of other possible scenarios need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, as it all goes down to your particular computer configuration. Asking on PC
troubleshooting forums/newsgroups should help you figure out solutions to not-so-obvious lockup cases.

How To Flash A Phone To Cricket Or Metro PCs

Flash or Flashing--Technically, flashing refers to the overwriting or re-writing of the phone's firmware. There are many phones which can be flashed to cricket with all features working. On most CDMA phones, programming the phone can be done "over the air" by dialing a special code, usually *228 or some variation. Colloquially speaking, flashing can also loosely mean making a phone from one carrier work on another carrier. The easy way to tell the difference is that if your phone does NOT take a SIM card, then it is probably CDMA.

To flash a phone to cricket you will be overwriting th phones firmware. The firmware is software in the phone that doesn't change when you turn it off, and it cannot be deleted unless it is overwritten, hence flashed. It requires specific files called prl files.PRL or PRL File--Short for Preferred Roaming List--A small text file containing instructions for how a phone connects to a specific network's radio towers It is usually loaded by connecting the phone to a computer to overwrite its data. There are a few tools used such as a pst PST--Short for Phone Service Tool or Tools--Special software used by phone manufacturers to program their phones. And also a monster file - -"Monster File"/"Monster Pack", ROM, or "Kitchen"--System software that is needed to flash a phone.

In almost all case you will need to access the phones service programming menu- - -Service Programming Menu--A special menu typically hidden from the primary User Interface that allows for "deep programming" of a phone. You will also need access to msl and spc codes specific to the device you are flashing.MSL/SPC--Special six-digit codes needed to access service programming features on the phone. Access to the service programming menu can be disabled in a phone's firmware.

How To Flash A Phone To Cricket Or Metro PCs

Depending on your phone, it may require extra steps to unlock or get WAP and MMS working. That is why you need the msl/spc codes to allow deep programming to unlock these features. Not all phones will be capable to access wap or send and receive mms.

Ringtones generally have to be prepaid using a flex bucket. It is best to download ringtones before you flash your phone to cricket since they have a limited selection of ringtones and wallpapers. There are cases were flashed phones will not be able to download ringtones directly from cricket.

The details outlined above will not only work with cricket but you can also flash phones to metro pcs using the information provided above. It is best to do all your research before purchasing your phone to ensure that the cell phone you are interested in can be flashed to cricket or metro PCs.
